Founded in Chicago in June 1917 by Melvin Jones on a basis of unselfish community service. LIONS International has grown to include approximately 20,000 member clubs in 132 countries and geographical locations on six continents. The acronym LIONS is derived from Liberty, Intelligency, Our Nation's Safety, now its slogan, and further illustrates the members concern for their fellow men.
